Tiko and Tapo live together in the Cloud Grove Woods with their parents. Though the Cloud Grove Woods are home to bird folk and no one else, one day, while Tapo is out foraging, she is attacked by human trespassers and is wounded. Tiko and Tapo’s mother leaves to find a doctor, and Tiko and Tapo are left alone, since their father is traveling. A few days later, Tiko ventures out to find her and Tapo’s mother, and finds her mother dying, after having been attacked by the same humans. She tells Tiko to travel to the west, so they can meet with their father and get help, sparking an adventure for the two young birds. But Tapo is injured, and is slowly getting weaker and weaker, and the humans are getting closer. The responsibility of taking care of the two falls to Tiko who must get Tapo and herself to the west, all while avoiding the human trespassers, and before it’s too late for Tapo.
